Artist dates are important year-round. We already have a list of some options that might work for you, but here is a list of ten ideas for autumn artist dates so that you can flex your creative muscles and fill your cup in a seasonal way!
Go on a leaf walk
Put on your most comfortable shoes and walk around your block (or a nearby park, or a hiking trail) and collect leaves. You can try to find one in every possible color, look for a range of shapes, only find the crunchiest possible leaves, or pick up ones that speak to you. Once you’re home, find a place to proudly display your collection for a few days.
Paint a pumpkin
You’ve tried carving pumpkins, but painting them is easier and lower key. Just get a pumpkin that speaks to you, get out your paints, and decorate in any way you see fit. I like to create a bowl of tiny pumpkins that I can display in a bowl, or paint a larger one that goes outside my door. Without cuts made, they last longer and wildlife is less likely to help themselves!
Plan your perfect fall day
What would your perfect fall day entail? Your favorite wool sweater, soup for lunch, an apple festival, a bonfire, a pumpkin spice latte? Write down exactly what you’d do on a perfect fall day, even if it’s just sleeping in and then watching scary movies all day. Then see if you can execute this plan! This one has the benefits of being a lot of little artist dates all in one, and you can see if friends want to join you!
Try seasonal produce
One of my favorite things to do is go to a farmer’s market, see what’s in season, and then see what I can create with my bounty! You could try to make a soup based off what you find, create the ultimate fall salad, or make an autumn brunch hash.
Make an autumn playlist
Creating the perfect playlist is an art, and I love having different playlists for different seasons. Spend some time journaling about what makes fall feel like fall to you, and then try to create a playlist that captures that vibe. Some examples from my own Spotify: In a Week by Hozier, Rhianon by Fleetwood Mac, and Scarborough Fair/Canticle by Simon & Garfunkel.
Make a fall simmer pot
Have you ever made a simmer pot? That’s essentially where you set a pot of water on the stove and set it to simmer, full of ingredients that will make your house smell great. You can customize this however you like, but autumnal ideas include cinnamon, apples, oranges, nutmeg, cloves, star anise, vanilla, pumpkin pie spice, cranberries… really, it’s anything you’d like! Once your simmer pot is going, take a few minutes to relax, meditate, do a face mask, or journal for the ultimate fall self-care vibes.
Make a fall Pinterest board
This is another that can be anything you want it to be! It could be autumn activities you want to try, spooky books or movies to check out, autumn outfits, recipes, or just pictures that feel like fall! This is a great one to combine with some others on the list; imagine how cozy you’d feel doing this while your simmer pot bubbles and your fall playlist plays!
Do something by candlelight
Painting, reading, watching a movie, taking a bath, enjoying a mug of tea… everything feels cozier and more autumnal by candlelight! Some people really enjoy scented candles to set the mood, but you also can’t go wrong with plain old beeswax.
Coffee shop date
Take yourself out to your favorite coffee shop–preferably one where you can sit outside in the fall air–and read a book or journal while you enjoy an autumn beverage and a seasonal pastry. Pumpkin spice optional.
Autumn day trip
See if you can find a nearby town with good foliage, walking trails, coffee shops, or antique stores, and plan a mini road trip to really get in the fall spirit. You can go by yourself or bring loved ones on this (or other) autumn artist dates!
